Healthy Diet

Aim For A Good Balance

When it comes to a healthy diet, balance is the key to success.  This means eating a wide variety of foods in the right proportions, and consuming the right amount of food and drink to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight.

Mix And Match From All The Food Groups

You will get all the nutrients you need from diet based on starchy foods such as rice and pasta; with plenty of fruit and vegetables; some protein-rich foods such as meat and fish; some dairy foods; and small quantities of fats and sugar.

Eat Plenty Of Protein

Meat, fish and eggs are all good sources of protein - essential for growth and repair of the body.  This food groups should account for slightly less than one sixth of our total consumption. Meat is also a good source of minerals such as iron, zinc and B vitamins. Fish supplies an abundance of protein as well as containing many vitamins and minerals.

Learn to Love Your Fruit and Vegetables

Fruit and vegetables are a vital source of vitamins and minerals, and should make up another one third of all the food we consume. There is strong evidence that people who eat at least 7 portions of fruit and vegetables a day are at lower risk or heart disease, stoke and some cancers.
