PETALING JAYA: Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah passed away at 1.30pm, Wednesday at the age of 86.
His passing was announced by Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
“It is with deep regret that I have to announce the passing of our beloved Sultan,” he said during a live telecast over RTM.
Zambry said the Sultan would be laid to rest at the royal mausoleum in Kuala Kangsar after Asar prayers on Thursday.
Born on April 19, 1928, in Batu Gajah, Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Yusuff Izzuddin Shah Ghafarullahu-lah ascended to the throne on Dec 9, 1985.
A Sultan for nearly three decades, he was 86 years old and is survived by his wife Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Bainun, as well as a son, Raja Muda of Perak Raja Dr Nazrin Shah and three daughters, Dato’ Seri Raja Azureen, Raja Eleena and Raja Yong Sofia. Another son, Raja Kecil Sulong of Perak Datuk Seri Raja Ashman Shah passed away on March 30, 2012.
