Wow .. wee ..

KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak tycoon Datuk Seri Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib said he only divorced his former wife Shahnaz A. Majid after 12 years of living apart because he did not want her to live in limbo without a husband.

Replying to his counsel Datuk Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar in the re-trial of RM100milmutaah (conciliatory gift) claim as divorce settlement filed by Shahnaz at the Syariah Court here, Mahmud said he persuaded his former wife to accept a divorce by mutual consent but was refused.

He said he sent his lawyer Saadiah Din to meet Shahnaz to discuss the divorce proposal in 2009 but his former wife disallowed Saadiah to even come to her house.

“In 1999, I told my parents about my wish to divorce Shahnaz but they advised me not to proceed as our child was small that time,” he said.

He also said that the RM100mil mutaah as claimed by Shahnaz was unreasonable as although they had lived apart for 12 years from 1999 until their divorce in 2011, he still gave her money, a house and vehicles.

He said he gave Shahnaz RM10,000 a month “and sometimes more”.

He said he also gave Shahnaz a bungalow in Damansara which he had bought for about RM2mil at the time.

He also gave three vehicles - a Cherokee Jeep, an S Class Mercedes-Benz and a BMW X5 worth more than RM2mil - which were used by her company.

“I also bought a Ferrari for our son, who is a big fan of Ferrari.

“I bought the car under my name as he was small at that time.

After he grew up, I transferred the ownership to his name,” he said.

Shahnaz, who is the older sister of jazz queen Datuk Sheila Majid, is claiming RM400mil, of which RM300mil is matrimonial property as part of the divorce settlement.

She is also claiming 50% of all assets owned by Mahmud. This, includes luxury cars, houses in various locations, land in Sarawak and shares.

The judge adjourned the trial to Sept 2 and 8.

The Psychology of Color in PowerPoint Presentations

Blue: The most popular background color for presentation slides
Blue is one of the most common background colors. It's calming and conservative, which is why it's very popular with business presenters, as well as for for trainers.

Green: Stimulates interaction and puts people at ease
Green stimulates interaction. It's a friendly color that's great for warmth and emotion.

Red: Handle with Care in Presentations!
Red is one of the most influential colors in your software palette -- but it also carries negative cultural attachments, so use it carefully.

Purple: Mystical and Emotional color in presentations and design
Purple is often associated with royalty and wealth. Purple also represents wisdom and spirituality. Purple does not often occur in nature, it can sometimes appear exotic or artificial.

Yellow, Orange, & Gold: Attention getting colors of affluence and prestige
Yellow can create feelings of frustration and anger. While it is considered a cheerful color, people are more likely to lose their tempers in yellow rooms and babies tend to cry more in yellow rooms.

Black: A strong and definite color that's often overlooked!
Don't forget your basic black. Often overlooked, black is a background color with useful psychological undertones. Its neutrality makes it a good backdrop for financial information.

Grey and Silver: A conservative color; Good when Black or White won't work.
According to psychologists, grey is often thought of as a negative color. It can be the color of evasion and non-commitment since it is neither black nor white.

6 Ways to Burn Your Belly Fat Fast

Belly fat is actually the most dangerous type of fat – besides aesthetics, large waist lines are indicators of –disease-disease-disease.

So how do you shape up?

1. Sleep
If you want to work late at night, think again. When your biorhythms are off, you end up eating more. When you’re tired you produce more ghrelin, which triggers cravings for sugar and other fat-building foods. Losing sleep can also alter your hormone production, affecting your cortisol levels that cause insulin sensitivity, prime reasons for belly fat! Getting about 7 hours of sleep a night is one of the best things you can do for your body shaping goals.

2. Short bursts of exercises
1000 crunches a night may get you strong abdominal muscles, but with a full layer of fat on top, you will not get the results you really want. Instead of all those crunches, do exercises that engage multiple muscle groups and work your cardiovascular system. Try planking, where you hold yourself in a push-up position, resting your forearms on the ground. Try 3 or 4 sets of holding for 30 seconds each. Getting up and moving throughout the day by going for walks will also help.

3. Sugar is your Enemy
Fighting belly fat is 80% healthy diet. Reduce calories by filling yourself up with protein, vegetables, whole grains, and replacing bad habit snacks with good ones. For example, if you have a sugar craving, replace your calorie laden latte with a Muscle Milk lite, one of my favorites, because it has zero sugar and a ton of protein that will satiate while also torching my sugar craving! Another great trick is a sprinkle of cinnamon in your morning coffee or oatmeal- the spice has been shown to help stabilize blood sugar. It also slows the rate at which food exits the stomach, which helps you feel fuller longer.

4. Vitamin C
When you’re under extreme stress, you secret more cortisol hormone. Vitamin C helps balance the cortisol spikes that happen to you under this stress. Besides being a good way to counteract a cold, Vitamin C is also essential for making carnitine, a compound used by the body to turn fat into fuel, making this vitamin your fat burning friend.

If you’re going through an emotional crisis, stress from work, or a bad eating splurge, increase your vitamin C – it’ll help counteract the negative side effects. Try bell peppers, kale or kiwi fruits. These have even more Vitamin C than the famous Orange!

5. Eat Fat
Yup, you heard me! It takes fat to burn fat. Like I said above, it’s sugar that gets you fat, not fat. Good fats include foods rich in Omega 3′s, like salmon, avocados & walnuts. These foods are full of nutrients that help keep you satiated throughout the day.

6. Slowing down your breath
This is a very simple method that you can use even when you’re in the midst of doing something else. Whenever you notice you’re feeling tense and uptight check and see how you’re breathing. Most people under stress either alternate holding their breath with short breaths, or take rapid shallow breaths. After you become aware of your own breathing, consciously relax your belly and slow down the breathing. This works best if you focus on slowing down the exhalation rather than your inhalation. With each exhalation you can say to yourself “slow down”. That is all there is to it- Simple but surprisingly effective!!!

How to write 1000 words a day {thesis writing tips}

Step 1: spend less time at your desk
The secret to writing at least 1000 words a day is to give yourself a limited time frame in which to do it. Dedicate less than a quarter of the day to making some new text and then take a break and return later to clean it up. This sounds counter intuitive, but trust me – it works.

Step 2: remember the two hour rule
Most people only have about two really good, creative writing hours in a day - two hours in which new ‘substantive’ ideas will make their way onto the page. Most of us are in the best frame of mind for this after breakfast and before lunch – whatever time of the day that happens to be for you. So writing new stuff should be almost the first thing you do when you sit down to your desk.

Step 3: start in the middle
Howard Becker in his excellent “Writing for Social Scientists” said: “How can I introduce it if I haven’t written it yet?”.This attitude is echoed in“Helping Doctoral Students to Write” , where Kamler and Thomson recommend that thesis writers think about their work in terms of ‘chunks’ rather than chapters.

A chunk can be anything up to two pages long – the text between each subheading if you like. No doubt you have some scrappy notes which you can transcribe or cut into a new file as a ‘seed’. Once you have planted the seed, just start adding on words around and over it – this builds a chunk. Don’t worry about where it fits yet – that’s a rewriting problem.

Step 4: Write as fast as you can, not as well as you can
This advice also comes from Becker, who points out that thinking happens during writing. The surest way to slow the process is to worry too much about whether your thinking is any good.So give yourself permission to write badly. If you can’t think of a word use another/equivalent/filler words: don’t slow down and start to think too much.

Do this ‘free writing’ in bursts of about 10 to 15 minutes. When you need a rest, review and fiddle with the text – maybe plant a new seed – then move on to another burst.

Step 5: leave it to rest… then re-write
Because you are writing without judgment, most of the words you generate in step four will be crap. Carving off the excess crap in the editing process will reveal the 1000 words of beautiful substantive text you are after. But take a break before you attempt this, or you wont have the necessary perspective. Go and have a coffee with a friend, watch some TV – whatever takes you away from your desk for a couple of hours. Then come back – maybe after dinner – and start sifting through, massaging and editing.

Be strategic about this editing – some parts will be easier than others. But do try to pull some ‘finished words’ – even if it’s only a paragraph – back into your draft each day. This gives you a sense of achievement which is important for morale.

- BERNAMA

Goodbye Cadbury

Our chocolates are halal — Cadbury {Do i care?}

JUNE 5 — Cadbury Malaysia today affirmed that all its chocolates made and sold in Malaysia are halal. This comes on the back of confirmation by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), which released official test results on the two affected batches on June 2.

“We at Cadbury Malaysia are happy to confirm what we have believed all along – that the chocolates we make and sell in Malaysia are halal,” said Sunil Sethi, Managing Director, Mondelez Malaysia. “Having operated in Malaysia for over 40 years, nothing is more important to us than our consumers’ trust. We intend to put this incident behind us and focus on spreading joy which is at the heart of everything we do at Cadbury.

“While incidents such as this are unfortunate, we are grateful to the relevant authorities for clearing up the air and ensuring that future abnormalities in their test results would be verified internally before making them public,” Sunil continued.
